What is this operetta about?
Abot how a right chosen marriage helps to become noble.
About how the same marriage helps a noble spendthrift make a fortune.
About how a cleverly conceived marriage adventure is ruined by… love.
And it happens more than a hundred years ago – in Paris!

The operetta “The Count of Luxemburg” has not lost its popularity for more than a hundred and ten years after its first production, and each new interpretation fascinates new generations of viewers. The world premiere took place on November 12, 1909, at Teatr an der Wien, Vienna. The libretto reflects the atmosphere of Paris in the first decade of 20th century and the music typical of this time. The premier was a surprising success, with the audience asking for repeats of every musical number. The first production was shown 300 times. The operetta quickly crossed the borders of Austria, attracted great interest on the stages of European theatres, and then widely in the world.
F. Lehár developed the operetta genre, which became popular at the end of the 19th century, with new rhythms, melodies, treatment of roles characteristics and formed a slightly different – the new Viennese type of operetta. The genre reform he started was continued by Imre Kalman.

The operetta “The Count of Luxemburg” was first staged in Lithuania in 1942, at State Theatre, later four more interpretations on the Kaunas stage was made – in 1944, 1963, 1985, 2002.

I write freely, I don’t restrict myself by the boundaries of the genre, for me musical theatre is opera, operetta, musical comedy, singspiel and everything where vocals and acting work. The most important thing is the play itself. If you feel with your heart what you want to say or sing, then you are happy or sad, you say “as in life”. This is possible if the characters are living people. Then it is clear what each note is about. My music is light and I aim to bring joy and a little sunshine to everyone who needs it
