Julius Vilnonis
Pianist, arranger.
Former conductor, pianist JULIUS VILNONIS worked at the Kaunas State Musical Theater from 1979, serving as choirmaster, vocal concertmaster, and keyboardist in the orchestra. In 1985, J. Vilnonis graduated from the Lithuanian State Conservatory (now the Academy of Music) with a degree in choral conducting and studied symphonic and opera conducting in Professor J. Domarkas’ class. From 1991, he was the theatre’s conductor and conducted the following performances: B. Britten’s opera for children Let’s Make an Opera, I. Kalman’s operetta Marica, P. Abraham’s operetta Ball in Savojoj, M. Leigh’s musical The Man from La Mancha, I. Kalman’s operetta Silva, J. Strauss’ operetta Die Fledermaus, I. Kalman’s operetta The Circus Princess, P. Abraham’s operetta Victoria, B. Pavlovsky’s ballet for children Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, staged R. Rodgers’ musical The Sound of Music, K. Millöcker’s operetta Gasparone (2001), and staged and orchestrated the musical for children Once Again About the Bremen Town Musicians (2004).
J. Vilnonis arranges and orchestrates musical works for theater orchestras, taught at the Kaunas Faculty of the Academy of Music, and later at the Music Academy of Vytautas Magnus University. J. Vilnonis has been playing the Kaunas Carillon for almost two decades. His carillon concerts have been performed in Germany, Denmark, France, and Spain. J. Vilnonis was president of the Lithuanian Carillonneurs’ Guild for several years.
J. Vilnonis is invited to play keyboard instruments in theater orchestras.
